Collection comprises correspondence and literary manuscripts of Joanna Russ, an American feminist and author of science fiction. Correspondence includes 12 containers of incoming and outgoing correspondence, as well as fan mail. Correspondents include American and English feminist writers and theorists of the late 20th century, as well as those involved in writing and publishing science fiction. The correspondence offers insight into the evolution of thought among a sizable group of women intellectuals as they attempted to conceptualize feminism and apply feminist perceptions of power in society to the realities of their own lives. Literary manuscripts, comprising three containers, includes novels, unpublished plays, published and unpublished short stories, theoretical essays, and sketches of contemporary life.
